Sheldon is home to Aedes mosquitoes, aggressive biters that prefer to feed on humans. These mosquitoes are capable of transmitting diseases like dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs in spots that will fill with water, and their eggs are resistant to drying out, hatching later when the conditions are right.
The two most notable species are Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Aedes aegypti, commonly known as the yellow fever mosquito, thrives in urban settings and can breed in small containers of water. Aedes albopictus, the Asian tiger mosquito, is easily recognized by its black body with white stripes. Both species are most active during daylight hours, especially at dawn and dusk.
Sheldon Pest Control aims to reduce the Anopheles mosquito population as part of our mosquito control services. These mosquitoes deposit their boat-shaped eggs on water surfaces, often where algae or dense vegetation are found. Their eggs have lateral floats, which keep them buoyant. Anopheles larvae rest flat on the water without a siphon, unlike other mosquito species. The adults also stand out by resting their bodies in a straight line, often at an angle or perpendicular to surfaces. These mosquitoes are the only ones known to carry malaria.
In Sheldon, five species of Anopheles mosquitoes are common, particularly in vegetated pools and agricultural areas. Their biting behavior during dawn, dusk, and nighttime makes them a risk. Effective control measures are necessary to curb their numbers and prevent malaria transmission.
In Sheldon, Culiseta mosquitoes are a familiar species. These mosquitoes lay their eggs on water surfaces, forming egg rafts. The larvae hang at an angle beneath the water surface. Adults are recognized by their bluntly rounded abdomen, with some species known for their painful bites.
Though not as aggressive as other mosquitoes, they can still pose a problem. Sheldon Pest Control offers effective mosquito treatments that target Culiseta mosquitoes, helping create a safer and more comfortable living space for you and your family.
In Sheldon, Culex mosquitoes are known for transmitting West Nile virus, St. Louis encephalitis, and Western equine encephalitis. These pests are most active at dawn, dusk, and after nightfall. They lay their eggs on the water’s surface, forming raft-like structures. Culex mosquitoes are commonly found near ponds, stagnant water, and agricultural regions.
Adult mosquitoes have light brown bodies with a pale band around their proboscis. Controlling their population requires removing standing water and applying treatments as needed.
We start by inspecting your property for mosquito breeding sites, focusing on stagnant water and dense vegetation. To help us treat your yard effectively, we recommend removing any standing water before our team arrives.
The treatment generally lasts around 30 minutes, depending on yard size. We use a combination of fogging and the In2Care system, both safe for kids and pets. The In2Care system will keep working after the treatment to prevent mosquito breeding.
Our mosquito control service provides continuous protection to keep your yard mosquito-free. Each monthly visit lasts about 30 minutes, depending on yard size. We recommend removing standing water before our visit. Our treatments are safe for children and pets, so your family can enjoy outdoor activities worry-free.
We use the In2Care system, which offers long-lasting mosquito control by targeting breeding areas. Monthly fogging creates a protective barrier that prevents mosquitoes from entering from nearby properties. Our technicians will also identify areas that could attract mosquitoes and suggest easy fixes. Our treatments remain effective even after rain, so your yard stays protected all season long.
